When to request permission for commercial activities

A commercial activity in a park includes any paid or profit-making activity carried out in a Council park or reserve.

This may include activities such as:

  • fitness classes or personal training
  • photography or filming
  • dog training
  • guided tours
  • outdoor classes
  • community events, fundraising or fun runs
  • busking in parks.

You must apply for permission before running commercial activities in a park.

Before applying

Make sure you:

  • check if your activity requires permission
  • confirm the park location and suitability
  • have a current public liability insurance (minimum of 20 million dollars) in the name of the person/organisation hosting the activity
  • prepare any supporting documents, including plans, run sheets, maps or risk assessments.

What you need to provide
1 Activity details

Provide information about the commercial activity, including:

  • the type of activity you’re planning to carry out
  • how your activity will benefit the park and public
  • how you will keep attendees, other park users and yourself safe.
2 Application details

You must provide the following information:

  • the period of consent you’re applying for including bump in and bump out dates and times
  • location details, including the suburb, park and area within that park
  • information about any temporary structures or equipment you’re proposing to bring in the park
  • whether you’re seeking electricity or vehicle access
  • aerial site map showing the area of the activity and the location of the equipment/structures. 
3 Applicant details

Make sure you supply:

  • the business trading name
  • contact details including name, phone number and postal address
  • other supporting documents for your application.
