Notify Council of a change of property use or provide the address of a property being used for temporary accommodation.

When to request a rate account change of property use

You can use this form to:

  • notify Council of a change of use of your residential property
  • advise Council the address of a residential property being used for transitory accommodation or paid guest accommodation.

It must be submitted by:

  • the property owner
  • a person who is authorised to act on behalf of the owner
  • someone advising of a residential property being used for transitory or paid guest accommodation purposes.

What you need to provide
1 Applicant details

You must provide contact details, such as:

  • name
  • phone number
  • email address.
2 Property information

As the property owner or someone authorised to act on their behalf, you need to provide the:

  • rate account number
  • name on the rates account
  • property address including:
    • street number and name
    • suburb
    • postcode.

If you are not the property owner or authority, you only need the property address, including the:

  • street number and name
  • suburb
  • postcode. 
3 Details of the property

For your property, you must specify:

  • if the home owner/s reside at the property
  • if you provide any accommodation services at the property.

For someone else's property, you need to describe how the property is being used. You may provide any supporting documentation (not required).

Frequently asked questions

You should advise us of any change to your residential property use. This includes if you provide any of the following services:

  • paid guest accommodation for short term stays (under 42 nights)
  • student homestay
  • transitory accommodation for more than 60 days in a year (with each stay less than 42 consecutive nights in duration).
  • long term tenancy agreement
  • if you take up occupancy as an owner.

An investigation will be undertaken and may result in a change of rating category. Due to privacy laws, you will not be advised of the outcome.
