City Plan amendments: In progress

To ensure it stays up to date and effective, Brisbane City Council regularly updates Brisbane City Plan 2014 with new or amended information.

Updates may include:

  • amendments to comply with changes in Queensland Government legislation
  • changes as a result of community or industry feedback from development assessment processes
  • new or updated neighbourhood plans developed in partnership with local communities
  • other new information.

From the commencement of the Planning Act 2016 on 3 July 2017, amendments will be made in accordance with the Queensland Government's Minister's Guidelines and Rules. From time-to-time Council also develops Temporary Local Planning Instruments.

Brisbane City Council requires Queensland Government approval to proceed with public consultation and to adopt proposed City Plan amendments based on the Minister’s Guidelines and Rules.

Council is awaiting Queensland Government approval to adopt and undertake public consultation on the following projects respectively:

  • Major amendment package K (submitted to Queensland Government in October 2022)
  • Major amendment package L (submitted to Queensland Government in December 2022).

In November 2023, Council received the Minister’s conditions for the following proposed amendments and must undertake additional planning changes in order to progress to public consultation on:

  • Qualified state interest amendment-Local heritage places (submitted to Queensland Government in September 2022)
  • Draft Nathan, Salisbury, Moorooka neighbourhood plan (submitted to Queensland Government in December 2022).

Note, due to caretaker conventions in place ahead of the local government elections in March 2024, Council will seek to undertake the approved public consultations from mid-2024.
