Proposed citywide amendment - Restricting townhouses from single-home areas

Brisbane is a great place to live, work and relax. To ensure our friendly and liveable city continues to thrive and Brisbane City Plan 2014 (City Plan) remains effective and up-to-date, Brisbane City Council is proposing changes to restrict townhouses from single-home areas (Major amendment package H).

The amendment was initiated by Council in response to resident feedback received during citywide consultation during Plan your Brisbane and is a deliverable from Brisbane’s Future Blueprint.

The proposed amendment intends to:

  • remove provisions in zone codes, development codes and neighbourhood plans supporting Multiple dwellings (townhouses and apartments) in the Low density residential zone
  • amend other relevant provisions in City Plan to align with this change, including amendments to the Strategic Framework, and make necessary consequential amendments.

For an overview of the proposed amendment including information about how Council will provide housing choice and how this amendment works with other City Plan amendments to ensure well designed residential development, you can download the:

The proposed amendment package was publicly notified for submissions from 29 July to 26 August 2019. Council is currently reviewing the submissions received. Once completed, Council will write to everyone who has made a properly made submission and publish a copy of the submissions report online.
