Wynnum and Manly | Coastal escape just 30 minutes from the CBD

If you’re craving fresh sea air, fish ‘n’ chips, and the feel of water lapping at your feet, it sounds like it’s time to take a trip to Wynnum and Manly. While you’re there, why not try something new, like sailing, kayaking or exploring Brisbane’s pre-colonial history?

Hit the water

Love water? Wynnum and Manly are a water-lover's paradise.

Reel 'em in on a deep-sea fishing tour

For the ultimate fishing adventure, Wynnum has plenty of reef and game fishing charters for groups or individuals. Choose from Frenzy Charters, Moreton Island Fishing Charters and Outlaw Charters.

For those who would rather keep their feet on dry land, cast a line at the Wynnum Jetty, a popular spot for bream and whiting.

Learn to sail from Manly Marina

Dreamt of sailing into the sunset, but not quite ready to take the leap? Sailing lessons are a great way of trying out the sea legs – and Manly has plenty of options available.

Sailing lessons are available at the Manly Marina by Southern Cross Yachting, the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron Sailing Academy or South Passage – Adventure Under Sail.

Insider's tip: For a fun social way to fill in a spare Wednesday afternoon, join the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron for WAGS (Wednesday Afternoons Go Sailing) program. It’s free for new sailors!

Make a splash in Wynnum Wading Pool

Let the kids run loose in the sheltered water of the Wynnum Wading Pool – one of Wynnum’s most loved destinations. Designed as a safer way for toddlers to enjoy the ocean, it’s also easy for parents to keep a watchful eye in its walled pool area. At high tide, it’s a water baby’s dream, with a waterslide into the pool. You can also watch yacht enthusiasts sail their model boats in the calm water.

Alternatively, head to the Wynnum Aqua Park, a water splash park near the wading pool perfect for smaller children.

Tip: Don’t forget to take the kids for rainbow ice cream across the road.

Kayak Manly Harbour

Kayaking is a great way to see Manly Harbour and the Moreton Bay Marine Park (a Wetland of International Importance). It’s the perfect way to spot the dolphins, turtles and other marine life that call these waters home.

Kayaks can be hired from Moreton Bay Hire Boats.

Stay high and dry on the mainland

This seaside destination has plenty of land-based things to see and do.

Manly Farmers Markets

The Manly Farmers Markets, also known as the Jan Powers Farmers Markets, is one of Brisbane’s best and oldest waterfront markets, held on the first and third Saturday of each month.

It’s the perfect way to start a day out. Enjoy the gentle bay breeze as you browse the fresh local produce, delicious baked goods, fresh locally caught seafood and one-of-a-kind craft. You can also pick up breakfast to enjoy overlooking the bay, and dogs are welcome.

Indulge in local seafood

Wynnum and Manly are both known for their fresh local seafood, so head to the esplanade and take your pick. There’s Sea Vibes Kitchen & Bar, Cooper’s Specialty Coffee and Tap House, Finn's Fish House, Pelican's Nest Café and more. Shucks Bar in Manly also has the best oysters in the area, with oyster happy hour on Sundays.

For something a little more upscale, have a fabulous long lunch and drinks at Tide On The Jetty, which is tucked away behind the Moreton Bay Trailer Club. Look out the bi-fold windows that open right onto the water and sit back in the Hamptons-style decor. Bookings are essential at this popular spot.

If you fancy taking your meal away, picnic and barbecue areas are dotted along the Wynnum Esplanade and are great for watching the sunset.

Wynnum Mangrove Boardwalk

The Wynnum Mangrove Boardwalk is an awesome way to see the stunning mangrove habitat. Take the winding walk, which links to a bird hide overlooking tidal salt marshes, and keep an eye out for the local wildlife.

As you wander along, display plaques describe the flora of the area and the importance of mangroves to the foreshore.

St Helena Island

Formerly a colonial prison, you can now visit St Helena Island National Park to immerse yourself in the fascinating history of the island. For parents looking for a fun educational day with the kids, check out the day tours on offer.

To get there, hop aboard the ‘Cat o Nine Tails’ ferry for the 30-minute ride across Moreton Bay.

Inflatable World Wynnum

Inflatable World Wynnum is one of the best and biggest inflatable playgrounds in Australia, so the kids are sure to love it. A single-entry fee gets you two hours of inflatable fun, so get ready to bounce!
