Higher than normal high tides

Higher than normal high tides are expected to be experienced in foreshore (low-lying areas near the coast) and riverside locations on Thursday 11 January 2024 to Monday 15 January 2024.

The Queensland Tide tables provided by the Bureau of Meteorology advise:

  • A predicted tide peak of 2.63 metres (1.39 m AHD) is expected at the Brisbane Bar at approximately 09:32am on Thursday 11 January.
  • A predicted tide peak of 2.69 metres (1.45 m AHD) is expected at the Brisbane Bar at approximately 10:18am on Friday 12 January. 
  • A predicted tide peak of 2.72 metres (1.48 m AHD) is expected at the Brisbane Bar at approximately 11:03am on Saturday 13 January.
  • A predicted tide peak of 2.70 metres (1.46 m AHD) is expected at the Brisbane Bar at approximately 11:48am on Sunday 14 January.
  • A predicted tide peak of 2.61 metres (1.37 m AHD) is expected at the Brisbane Bar at approximately 12:32pm on Monday 15 January.

Please note tide peaks can be higher than predicted.

These high tides are expected to be slightly higher than the high tides experienced in January 2023 and lower than the high tides experienced in early July 2023.

Minor localised flooding may be experienced in bayside, riverside, and low-lying parts of nearby suburbs. Areas connected to foreshore, and tide-affected areas of the river, creeks and other waterways may also be affected.

Residents in areas prone to localised flooding due to high tides are advised to avoid parking their cars on the street during these times.

Please note that residents in tidal flood areas who are signed up for Brisbane Severe Weather Alerts can expect to also receive creek flood alerts during higher than normal high tides.

If required, sandbags are available for collection from the following locations:

  • Darra - 38 Shamrock Road, Darra
  • Morningside - 9 Redfern Street, Morningside
  • Newmarket - 66 Wilston Road (in carpark off Erneton Street), Newmarket
  • Zillmere - 33 Jennings Street, Zillmere
  • Lota - Herbert Street, Lota.
