Council services and facilities will have changed operating conditions from Thursday 21 December until Sunday 7 January.
Bus Services
- From Thursday 21 December to Friday 22 December there will be additional bus trips to service the CBD, Indooroopilly, Garden City, Carindale and Chermside to coincide with extended shopping hours to midnight
- Buses will operate a Sunday timetable on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day and a Saturday timetable on Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve
- There will be no early morning CityGlider or NightLink services on Christmas Day or Boxing Day
- Peak period Rocket services, except P205 and P221, will not operate from Wednesday 27 December to Friday 29 December.
- P205 and P221 services will continue to operate their normal weekday timetables
- Additional services will be provided on New Year’s Eve to help people travel into the CBD for the fireworks display and then home again afterwards
- Extra trips on New Year’s Day will provide half hourly services on all NightLink routes in the early morning. CityGlider and Maroon Glider services will also operate between midnight and 5.00am
River services
- All ferries will operate on a Sunday/Public Holiday timetable on Christmas Eve
- On Christmas Day, CityCats will operate reduced services every 30 minutes and CityHoppers will offer reduced services of 30-45 minute frequency
- There will be no Bulimba to Teneriffe or Kangaroo Point Cross River Ferry services on Christmas Day
- All ferries will operate on a Sunday/Public Holiday timetable on Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day 1 January 2024
- On New Year’s Eve, all ferries will operate on a Sunday timetable with revised services in the afternoon and evening
Pools
- During the Christmas break, Council pools will be fully operational with the exception of Christmas day
- On public holidays, most Council pools are open between 9am-5pm, with some exceptions, visit Council’s website for pools’ trading hours (pool open hours may vary between venues).
- Acacia Ridge Leisure Centre - Lagoon Only (different from the rest of the pool) Public Holidays Open 10am-5pm (Closed Christmas Day).
- Carole Park Pool Public Holidays Open 10am-4pm (Closed Christmas Day).
- Musgrave Park Pool Public Holidays Open 7am-6pm (Closed Christmas Day).
- Valley Pool Public Holidays Open 7am-6pm (Closed Christmas Day).
- Council will continue its $2 Summer Dips incentive, slashing general entry fees to $2 for Council pools. Please see website for exceptions.
Community Facilities
- Riverstage will be closed for the closedown period (Saturday 23 Dec– Sunday 7 Jan).
- City Hall will be fully operational and closed on public holidays.
- Community Halls will be open as normal, except for New Years Eve, when all venues are closed.
- The Community Halls office will be on minimal staffing, actioning only urgent enquiries during business hours.
- Planetarium will be fully operational and closed on public holidays.
- Cemeteries will be fully operational and closed on public holidays.
Libraries
- All Brisbane City Council libraries will be closed on the following dates (and open as usual on all other days):
- Sunday 24 December (Christmas Eve)
- Monday 25 December (Christmas Day)
- Tuesday 26 December (Boxing Day)
- Sunday 31 December (New Year’s Eve)
- Monday 1 January (New Year’s Day)
Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mt Coot-tha
- Open to the public all year. Current summertime hours are 8am-6pm. Vehicle access in the Gardens is not permitted on weekends, public holidays and from 4pm on weekdays. Mt Coot-tha Visitor Information Centre – Closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day
- Mt Coot-tha Library – Closed on public holidays. Opening hours are: Monday, Friday and Sunday 10am – 3pm; Tuesday and Wednesday 10am – 4pm; Saturday 9am – 4 pm. Closed on Christmas Eve (24 December), Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Christmas Day public holiday (27 December), New Year’s Eve (31 December), New Year’s Day (1 January) and New Year’s Day public holiday (2 January).
- Botanic Gardens Café – Botanic Gardens Café will be open until 4:00pm on Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Open 8.30am to 4pm December 24, otherwise open Mon-Fri 8:30am-4pm and Sat- Sun 8am-4pm
City Botanic Gardens
- Access to the City Botanic Gardens remains open to the public 365 days per year
- The City Botanic Gardens Information Kiosk will close on 17 December 2023, and re-open 29 January 2024
- Guided tours with the Volunteer Guides recommence 29 January 2024
Waste and Resource Recovery Services
- Rubbish collections will continue across the holiday period, including public holidays
- Council’s 4 resource recovery centres are open every day of the year, including the Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day public holidays
- The kerbside collection schedule for 2023/24 will continue to schedule, with details of dates and suburbs on our website
