What's on in Brisbane search: How to guide

Brisbane City Council helps deliver thousands of markets, festivals and events each year.

We want to make finding events easier for you. Not sure where to start? We've put together a 'How to guide' to help you navigate our What's on in Brisbane search page.

You'll be able to find helpful tips and tricks regarding:

You can use any combination of a keyword search with the additional search options or you can choose just from the additional search options to help filter events.

To complete your search you can:

  • select the magnifying glass next to the 'Search events' text box
  • press 'Enter' on your keyboard
  • select the 'Search events' button in the additional search options section.

Search by keyword

The quickest and easier way to search through events is by using a keyword search.

To do this select the box that says 'Search events' and start typing. When you're happy with your keyword you add additional filtering options or complete your search.

For best results try to keep your search to singular words or short phrases. 

For example:

  • yoga
  • nature walk
  • story time
  • Brisbane Festival.

Additional search options

There are a variety of additional options that you can use to further search or filter your current search.

You can access these options by selecting '+ Search options - type, age, date, venue, series'.

Search by date

You have the option to search by date or date range.

If you are looking for a specific date use the 'From" field and leave the 'To' field blank. If you want to expand the date range simply fill in the 'To' field as well.

Search by type

You can filter our events further by selecting an event type from the type drop-down list. 

The list includes:

  • Active and healthy events
  • Art
  • Business
  • Christmas
  • Community halls
  • Culture
  • Exhibitions
  • Family events
  • Featured
  • Free
  • Green
  • Library events
  • LIVE
  • Markets
  • Music
  • Performing arts
  • School holidays
  • Tours
  • Workshops

Note - you can only select one option from the list.

If you're a fan of Council's Active and healthy programs make sure to select the 'Active and healthy events' type or if you're an avid attendee of our libraries select 'Library events'.

With both of these event types you'll be able to further filter your search using the Sub-types.

Search by age

You can filter our events further by selecting an age range from the Age drop-down list. 

The list includes:

  • Infants and toddlers
  • Preschool kids
  • Kids
  • Teens
  • Young adults
  • Adults (30+)
  • Seniors

Note - you can only select one option from the list.

Search by venue

You can filter our events further by selecting one or multiple venues from the Venue list. All you need to do is select the area 'Choose some options' and start typing or scroll through the list.

The list contains a large number of Council venues and parks as well as a number of additional commonly used venues not managed by Council.

Note - you can select multiple venues from the list.

Search by suburb

You can filter our events further by selecting one or multiple suburbs from the Suburb list. All you need to do is select the area 'Choose some options' and start typing or scroll through the list.

The list contains all Brisbane Local Government Area suburbs.

Note - you can select multiple suburbs from the list.

Search by status

This drop-down list allows you to filter and see what events are booked out, postponed or cancelled.

Note - you can select multiple options from the list.

Search by event series

From time to time we'll host a series of events that are a part of a special program or major event. Types of event series you can expect to see within this drop-down list throughout the year include BrisAsia Festival, City Hall Concerts, Seniors Week and many more.  

Note - you can only select one option from the list.

Quick searches

Quick searches are available for you to find events quicker.

Quick searches currently available include:

  • This weekend - filters the dates to include events from Friday through to Sunday.
  • Brisbane City Hall - filters to show events taking place at Brisbane City Hall.
  • Library events - filters to show all Library events.
  • Cancelled or Postponed - filters to show you all cancelled or postponed events.
