Tree maintenance request overview

To achieve the best possible outcome for Brisbane, there is a process that we will follow to manage your tree requests.

Prioritising your request

Based on the information you provided when making your request, a system generated timeframe may have been provided to you.

This timeframe is based on and can be influenced by the following factors:

  • public safety – we will always prioritise issues that pose a greater risk to public safety
  • weather – the weather may hinder our ability to complete work or may result in an increase in requests
  • workload – at times, we may receive more requests than usual
  • location – some streets need special approval to set up work sites (schools, busy roads, permits) and this may delay some requests
  • availability of required specialised equipment to complete request

Assessment

We will review your request and, based on the information that you have provided, confirm the urgency and the work that is required.

If additional information is required, an inspector may attend the request location and make an assessment. An updated timeframe may be provided at this point if our assessment of your request has changed.

Council resolution

Council can address your request in a number of ways. This can include an initial make safe treatment, followed by a more permanent solution.

For example, when a tree removal is completed, the cutting down of the tree and the removal of the stump may be done in two distinct parts.

Sometimes we may also need to take different actions than what you may have requested. This can be in the interest of:

  • assuring public safety
  • being environmentally responsible
  • maintaining effective, efficient and economical management of public resources.

This may also mean that Council determines that no work is required at this time.

Other authority resolution

In some instances, it may be the responsibility of another authority to carry out your request. Where this is the case, Council will generally liaise with the appropriate authority before closing your request.
