Wildlife in Brisbane

Brisbane has more species of plants, animals, and insects than any other capital city in Australia.

Use this page to find out about Brisbane's wildlife, significant wildlife species, Brisbane City Council's habitat conservation program for private land, and how to preserve Brisbane's biodiversity. You can also find information on how to manage invasive plant and animal species on your land.

Find what you need

Report a wildlife sighting or search for wildlife records

To report a wildlife sighting or to find information about species known to occur in your neighbourhood, visit the Atlas of Australia website. You will be able to record and verify your native plant or animal sightings.

Report deceased wildlife on Council roads or in Council parks

To report deceased wildlife on roads or in Council parks, phone Council on 07 3403 8888. Deceased animal sightings associated with vehicle-strikes provide valuable information for investment in Wildlife Movement Solutions.

Report sick, injured or orphaned wildlife

Council operates a native animal ambulance service through the RSPCA.

If you find a sick, injured and/or orphaned wild animal, call the RSPCA on 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625) and ask for help from the animal ambulance.
