Planning and building rules

Brisbane City Council incorporates Queensland Government requirements with Council’s own rules and assessment criteria (assessment benchmarks) to manage growth and change in Brisbane. These rules are set out in Brisbane City Plan 2014. The rules also reflect the community's expectation for future development.

Flood standards

Standards have been put in place for areas of Brisbane affected by flooding. City Plan guides how land in Brisbane can be used and developed and sets appropriate requirements to minimise the effects of flooding on proposed new developments.

Subdivision

Read the rules and guidelines for subdividing your property (reconfiguring a lot).

Heritage

Find out about heritage properties and how City Plan governs developments on heritage properties.

Infrastructure charges

Brisbane City Council levies infrastructure charges as part of the development assessment process. These charges apply when a subdivision or material change of use occurs that generates additional demand on trunk infrastructure networks.
