About the project

The embankment under the Burwood Road bridge, along the Kedron Brook, has experienced severe erosion and damage from flood waters.

In mid-2022 we undertook temporary erosion protection works on the bridge abutment and piers, as part of the Kedron Brook restoration program. Works included placing large rocks in sections where erosion had occurred to ensure the resilience of the bridge and nearby abutments while we could investigate a permanent solution.

These permanent improvement works are required to ensure the resilience of the bridge during future severe weather and to reduce the need for ongoing maintenance works.

Project timing

Construction will commence in late-February 2024 and is anticipated to be complete in mid-2024, weather and site conditions permitting.

Works will be undertaken Monday to Friday, from 7am to 5pm.

Construction impacts

These works will involve stabilising the embankment around the bridge foundations by installing rock protection around the base of the bridge piles, batter and abutment.

During the works, you may experience:

  • temporary stop-go closures of the Kedron Brook Bikeway near the bridge as required, with traffic control in place
  • increased noise, truck movements, vibrations and dust
  • signage and traffic controllers onsite to help you move safely through the area
  • minor traffic delays for construction access and deliveries, as required.

A site laydown area and compound will be established in Teralba Park, near Gordon Parade.

Site access

To safely access the work site, our contractors will need to create a temporary track through a portion of the dog park to access the area under Burwood Road bridge.

Temporary fencing will be in place around the access track during these important works. The dog park will remain open throughout construction.

The area will be reinstated following the works.
