Victoria Park / Barrambin - Spring Hill Common

Brisbane City Council is commencing construction on the Spring Hill Common at Victoria Park / Barrambin. Spring Hill Common will provide the local community with a relaxed parkland setting and lifestyle destination in Brisbane’s inner city.

The area will feature tiered stepped seating and a flat outdoor space for active and healthy activities, community gatherings and picnicking. Spring Hill Common will be located on the Spring Hill side of the park, in the south-western corner.

This project is part of the early stages of the overall Victoria Park / Barrambin Master Plan.

About the project

The Spring Hill Common works will include:

  • earthworks to create a multi-purpose lawn area
  • demolition of pathways and a stormwater culvert
  • a new Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) accessible ramp and pathway, and steps from Gregory Terrace with lighting, garden beds, retaining, seating and kerb walls
  • construction of curved concrete terrace and seating walls intermixed with sloped turf areas
  • removal of one decaying tree, relocating 11 trees within the site and planting an additional five trees
  • installation of irrigation system
  • installation of new drinking fountains and rubbish bins
  • construction of new DDA compliant car park space along Gregory Terrace
  • reconfiguration of existing car parking along Gregory Terrace.

Project timing

Construction commenced in mid-September 2023 and is expected to be completed by mid-2024, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Works will occur between 6am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, with some Saturday or night works as required. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community. Council is committed to keeping you informed and will provide advance notification of any out-of-hours works.

As works progress, Council will provide residents and businesses with updates about the project, including construction timing and anticipated impacts.

Construction impacts

Victoria Park / Barrambin will remain open during the works, however fencing will be in place to enclose the construction area, for the safety of workers and the community.

There will be some construction noise, minor dust, minor vibration, and increased vehicle movement in the surrounding streets and within the park.

The community can anticipate temporary access changes to the pathways around the park. Signage will be in place to guide pedestrians and park users.
