Parking permit areas
Brisbane has a number of parking permit areas in place to ease parking congestion. These areas are mainly located across the CBD and inner city areas, near hospitals, universities, sports stadiums, popular entertainment venues and shopping areas.
There are two main types of parking permit areas:
Area-wide parking time limits apply to all parking spaces within traffic and parking control areas, unless signed otherwise (e.g. metered parking zones). Large signs are located at the entries to these areas indicating parking conditions. This enables the area to be defined without the need to place signage on each street advising this restriction. Most current residents can apply for a residential parking permit for unrestricted parking within these areas.
Short and medium-term parking and metered parking are in place within residential parking permit areas. Most current residents can apply for a residential parking permit for unrestricted parking in time limited and metered parking spaces if the sign says 'Resident permit excepted'.
Future residents will be ineligible for a residential parking permit in these areas if they reside in a multi-unit dwelling or student accommodation that was approved as a result of a development application lodged after 31 March 2015.
