Monthly construction update - Breakfast Creek Green Bridge

December 2023 and January 2024

Brisbane City Council is delivering the Breakfast Creek Green Bridge and Lores Bonney Riverwalk extension, which will provide an enhanced green transport link along the river from the inner city to the northern suburbs. The bridge is expected to open in early 2024.

Christmas closure

The Breakfast Creek Green Bridge will shut down for the Christmas period from Friday 22 December 2023 and return Monday 8 January 2024.

Marine construction activities in December 2023 and January 2024:

  • pontoon movements from the Ross Street compound to Breakfast Creek marine site.

Land construction activities in December 2023 and January 2024:

  • bridge deck and riverwalk extension works including balustrade installation, lighting, CCTV, signage and line marking
  • bridge landing area works including concreting, lighting, CCTV, signage, line marking and landscaping in the north-western corner of Newstead Park
  • riverwalk landing works including concreting, lighting, signage and line marking at the western end of Cameron Rocks Reserve
  • footpath concreting and asphalting, median and kerb works, street lighting, signage and line marking works on Breakfast Creek Road and Newstead Avenue.

Out-of-hours activities in December 2023 and January 2024:

  • Kingsford Smith Drive off ramp and Breakfast Creek Road, Albion – large concrete pour for the bridge deck.
  • Kingsford Smith Drive and Breakfast Creek Road, Albion – line marking and kerb works.

What to expect

  • Out-of-hours closure of Kingsford Smith Drive off ramp to Breakfast Creek Road for one night on Sunday 3 December 2023, weather and construction conditions permitting, with:
    • motorists travelling on Kingsford Smith Drive inbound to Breakfast Creek Road detoured via the ICB off-ramp towards Sandgate Road, Allison Street, Thompson Street and Edmondstone Road
    • speed limit reduced to 40km/h on Kingsford Smith Drive inbound approaching the Breakfast Creek Road off-ramp
    • lane closure on Breakfast Creek Road outbound near the Breakfast Creek road bridge
    • temporary bus stop closure on Breakfast Creek Road inbound near Newstead Avenue (Stop 12)
    • lane closure on Amy Street inbound with a detour in place for motorists travelling to the city
    • access to business driveways on Breakfast Creek Road and adjoining local roads will be maintained at all times.
  • noise associated with construction activities and use of machinery and equipment including concrete trucks, mobile cranes and generators
  • traffic control and signage to assist motorists and path users as required.

Construction hours

Works will generally be undertaken from 6.30am to 6.30pm, Mondays to Saturdays.

Night works will generally be undertaken at times on Kingsford Smith Drive and Breakfast Creek Road from Sundays to Thursdays, 7pm to 5am.

Some out-of-hours works will be required outside of these times due to lane closure requirements and to minimise overall community impacts. Workers will endeavour to undertake the noisiest activities prior to 10pm, where possible.
