Mount Gravatt Outlook Reserve – Planning for the Future project

Brisbane City Council is creating more to see and do in a city that is clean and green by undertaking the Mount Gravatt Outlook Reserve - Planning for the Future project.

As Mount Gravatt and surrounding areas continue to grow, it is important to ensure that our recreation areas and open spaces continue to meet the needs of the community.

As part of the planning process, Council has developed two draft concept plans – one for the overall reserve and the second for proposed upgrades at the summit of Mount Gravatt.  Council invited feedback from the community about the concept plans to help inform finalising the plans.

About the project

The Mount Gravatt Outlook Reserve provides a breathing space from city life only 10km from the CBD where the community can enjoy bushwalking, bird watching, picnicking and taking in the spectacular views from the summit.

An important natural habitat area for Brisbane’s native flora and fauna, Mount Gravatt Outlook Reserve contains open forest, shrubland, woodland, heaths and scrub understoreys. The reserve provides a home for native birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals, including koalas.

Mount Gravatt Outlook Reserve also possesses significant values including scenic, environmental, recreational, historical and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage.

In 2019, Council commenced a program of upgrades at Mount Gravatt Outlook Reserve which has delivered walking track upgrades, improved the reserve entry and upgraded the car park at Gertrude Petty Place.

Council is now planning for the next stage of upgrades at Mount Gravatt Outlook Reserve. The Mount Gravatt Outlook Reserve - Planning for the Future project will provide a framework for future planning at the reserve and guide how Council will preserve the natural values of the reserve while shaping future recreation activities and facility upgrades.

Brisbane City Council prioritises protecting and conserving environmental and heritage values in our city’s natural areas first, then considers creating more recreation opportunities to ensure future generations can enjoy our natural areas.

Community feedback

Council has closed community consultation and thanks community members who provided input into the project. Community feedback will be considered along with technical investigations to help prepare the final concept plan/s.

Project timing

Council will aim to release the final concept plan/s in mid to late 2023.
