Council has developed a concept plan for the Wally Tate Park upgrade, as part of our commitment to enhancing and maintaining more than 2100 parks across Brisbane.
|Address||Beenleigh Road, Runcorn|
|Project outcomes||An upgraded district sport and recreation park.|
Council completed a sporting needs analysis to inform the concept plan, which will increase sporting facilities and opportunities for recreational activities in the park.
About the project
Brisbane City Council is committed to keeping Brisbane clean and green, making our city liveable and sustainable for future generations.
Wally Tate Park is an established district park situated in the south Brisbane suburbs of Runcorn, Kuraby and Eight Mile Plains. The park stretches broadly from Underwood Road in the north to Beenleigh Road and the Beenleigh/Gold Coast rail line in the south. The park comprises areas zoned for district sport and recreation and district open space under Brisbane City Plan 2014. The concept plan and proposed sporting facilities will provide increased active and healthy recreation opportunities for the community. Works will be delivered in two stages.
Council has allocated funding in the 2018-19 financial year to deliver a new multi-use games arena and outdoor gym for this project.
These facilities will provide new outdoor lifestyle and leisure opportunities for people of all ages. Construction is due to start in early 2019.
Council will consider new amenities to support existing lessees, including the Kuraby Cricket Club and the Queensland Lure Coursing Association. Future works may also include an upgrade to the park entry as well as improvements to vehicle and pedestrian access.
A future stage of Wally Tate Park is proposed to expand on the existing sporting precinct in the vicinity of the established playing field.
Considerations for the sport precinct improvements may include:
- a new junior cricket field with a synthetic pitch that enables shared use of space with lure coursing activities and allows for a potential future junior soccer field
- new lighting for the senior and junior fields
- car parking for 100 vehicles
- new amenities building
- road widening for two-way vehicle access
- pedestrian pathways
- picnic shelters
- upgraded cricket practice nets
- attractive landscaping.
The Wally Tate Park improvement project proposes a green space that:
- provides a new multi-use games arena and outdoor gym
- enhances existing sporting facilities
- provides new public amenities.
